Ecosystem Content Writer – GitHub

We’re looking for a writer to help create developer content for the GitHub Developer Documentation site.

You’ll report to the Product Documentation Team Manager and work cooperatively with the Product Documentation team to create content that showcases the power of the GitHub platform products and tools, geared toward developers at different stages in their careers.

The Product Documentation team is highly distributed and we embrace an environment of asynchronous communication. You’ll need strong communication skills and the ability to build working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.

Responsibilities:

  • Create helpful, scalable documentation for developers learning about APIs, whether they’re new to coding or leveraging the GitHub Platform to build their own integrations.
  • Collaborate with the Product Documentation team to plan, create, and maintain developer content for the GitHub Platform.
  • Review and edit drafts of developer content from other writers and developers.
  • Communicate with teams across GitHub about user feedback, product direction and vision, and technical product information to inform the content we create.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to create high-quality, innovative content for developers.
  • Strong developer advocate, especially for those new to a platform.
  • Ability to compassionately give and receive editorial and technical feedback.
  • Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and carry out complex writing projects with high attention to detail along the way.
  • Working knowledge of HTTP and web requests.
  • Familiarity with a higher-level programming language, such as Ruby, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when working with a distributed team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
  • Experience creating technical content.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a team of writers or editors.
