Our global team includes editors, researchers, data engineers, security specialists, administrators, technologists, and strategists, each with areas of in-depth expertise.

Job Requirements:

  • We are looking for an experienced DevOps engineer to work with our small team that runs Aleph, our data platform. Aleph helps journalists to discover insights in vast amounts of leaked and scraped information, and unravel complex stories about corruption, money laundering, and fraud.
  • Ideally, you should be interested in the field of investigative reporting and in the architecture and interplay of the tools used to create complex data systems. You should understand the complexities associated with deploying and running these systems, and be familiar with common problems and how to resolve them.
  • Our technology stack includes: Python, Flask, PostgreSQL and ElasticSearch. We use Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes. Product security is a top priority. Our products are open source, published via GitHub. As a DevOps engineer you should be experienced with some, if not all of these technologies.
  • You need to be comfortable working remotely and understand the advantages and disadvantages that come with being remote. You need to be confident at communicating and collaborating with the team in English. You should also be passionate about working in a small team where you will be required to juggle priorities appropriately.
  • As part of our development team your core responsibility will be to deploy, run and maintain our production instance of Aleph, addressing any issues that may occur in production. You may also be required to help in the further development of Aleph, addressing existing challenges.
  • You should be proficient with the following: GCP, Kubenetes, Helm, Python, Elasticsearch, ngnix, Redis, and Docker.
  • Knowledge of the following tools and libraries is also an advantage: RabbitMQ, Argo, Git, Flask
