Audio/Video Production Manager – Manning Publications

Job Expired

Job Description:

Manning Publications, a leading publisher of computer/technical books, is looking for an Audio/Video Production Manager to help us with our liveAudio and liveVideo product lines. In this role you’ll help our video course instructors make wise equipment and software decisions and offer advice on getting the best audio-video quality in their space. You’ll help define best practices for producing liveVideo courses, too.

As A/V Production Manager you’ll also coordinate with video editors for post-production, transcript editors to polish the transcripts, and other team members to prepare and upload the files to liveVideo. You’ll learn the ins-and-outs of the liveVideo platform and help video instructors and their Development Editors use the platform to create engaging video courses.

Job Requirements:

  • Familiarity with video and screencast recording techniques, equipment, and software. Our post-production editors use Adobe Premiere, and our instructors use all sorts of applications, including Camtasia, Screenflow, iMovie, Kdenlive, and others. You may also work with the occasional green-screen and talking-talking video, so familiarity with best practices there will be helpful.
  • Familiarity with audio (voice) recording best practices, microphone selection and use, interfaces and preamps, and a general understanding of room acoustics so you can help instructors tame room noise and reverb when necessary. Most of our instructors use USB mics (like the Blue Yeti or Audio-technica AT2005) but a few have used more complicated setups.
  • Good people, time, and project management skills. You’ll be coordinating the efforts of a small team to get video courses published in a timely manner, and helping us produce and release these courses more quickly than we are now.

Ideally you’ll have recorded, edited and produced your own video content. If you have, we’d love to see examples! If not, don’t worry, as long as you can demonstrate solid knowledge of the above skills, we want to hear from you.

Bonus points if you:

  • Have audio editing or mastering experience, or knowledge of ACX submission guidelines to help us tweak the occasional liveAudio audiobook project into compliance.
  • Have experience working for a fully-remote, international team.
  • Already use web-based tools like Slack, Trello, Box, and similar.
  • Have some technical chops, too, like knowledge of Amazon Web Services and comfort using command-line tools.
