In this position you will be working in a high-profile role on a complex infrastructure project used by many organizations, collaborating with engineers both within DataStax and without to improve the project. Attaining committer status on the Apache Cassandra project is absolutely an expectation of anyone in this role should they not already have that. Job Responsibilities:

  • Help guide the direction of the open-source project through public project debate and extensive code contributions
  • Reproduce, fix, and test your solutions for complex defects in a distributed environment
  • Participate in and contribute to the production certification of open-source Apache Cassandra

  • Implement and resolve customer requests and issues
  • Explain technology you’re working on through blog posts and conference presentations

Job Requirements:

  • A relentless focus on quality, elegance, and simplicity in your solutions and your code
  • Strong background in systems or back-end Java, C++, or C#
  • Be very comfortable designing multi-threaded systems and algorithms in large-scale software
  • Pragmatism in applying fundamental data structures, algorithms, and architectures to distributed database software
  • Excellent written communication skills: comfortable with a distributed and diverse team interacting primarily over email, IRC, and our bug tracker
  • Comfortable reading, reviewing, and modifying others’ code
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable working with large code bases
  • Able to work autonomously with little oversight

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Apache Cassandra (committer status would be awesome!)
  • Previous experience working on the internals of a database
  • Previous experience writing code to build a non-REST distributed system
  • Experience tuning performance for large scale distributed systems
  • Experience with performance profiling and optimization in critical path code
  • Involvement in open source communities
  • BS, MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or related major
