About the Role
Working in open source means your work is publicly visible. Your code will receive both credit and constructive critique from the community. Core committers include highly skilled volunteer developers from the community, staff employed by enterprises deploying and investing in Mattermost, as well as staff employed by Mattermost, Inc.
We are looking for a database engineer with strong backend skills. You are fluent in administering, tuning, and debugging relational databases at scale, while just as comfortable architecting the server code and underlying data model relying on these databases.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Be an expert at running relational databases with Mattermost
  • Maintain and optimize databases for reliability, scalability and performance
  • Drive architectural changes to the backend code interfacing with the database
  • Guide the onboarding of customers in relation to database configuration
  • Assist fellow engineers with database queries and configuration
  • Support operations with deployments, debugging production issues and tuning
  • Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
Job Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related fields, or significant professional software development experience
    • Fluent in at least MySQL or Postgres
    • Working knowledge of high-availability replication strategies, including multi-master
    • Confidence writing Go or experience with a similar language

Preferences

    • Fluent in MySQL and Postgres
    • Working knowledge of non-relational databases, with experience in rearchitecting a relational data model to perform well in such a database
    • Experience and interest in working with Kubernetes
    • Comfortable with GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, CircleCI
    • Experience working in open source communities
