Engineering Manager – Democratic National Committee

Job Expired

Job Description:

The Democratic National Committee’s Tech team is expanding our engineering group to get ready for 2020 and we need a few great engineering managers to help us. The Tech team works closely with campaigns up and down the ballot to provide them the tools and data they need to win. If you are interested in leading a team that provides Democrats everywhere with rock solid data infrastructure, reliable data pipelines, or tools to help people use data to win elections, we have a spot for you.

Who we are

The Tech team is a small but growing distributed team that develops and supports technology used by candidates and organizers in all 50 states and all 3,413 counties across the United States to analyze data, organize campaigns, raise money, and get out the vote on election day.

Do you want to

  • Secure the future of our country? Right now a lot is at stake in our country and our team has a huge opportunity to make a real difference.
  • Work with amazing people? We’re building a top-notch distributed team not limited by geography – currently we have alumni from past Presidential campaigns and folks from the tech industry working from over a dozen cities and all four time zones in the contiguous US.
  • Help build a diverse team? Diversity is a strength of the Democratic party and we believe that we can best support the party if our team reflects that diversity. You should be excited about building a diverse and inclusive team.
  • Never stop learning? There are people who know about politics and people who know about technology and a few who have figured out some things about how to combine the two, but we are blazing a lot of new trails and you should be comfortable exploring and learning from everyone you can.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other engineering managers, engineers, data scientists, and product managers to help us figure out how we can best use technology to help Democrats get elected.
  • Build for the long run knowing that the mission of the Tech team is to continually improve the technology available to Democrats from campaign to campaign and election to election. This includes being comfortable improving systems that were built in the heat of campaigns past.
  • Work remotely. You should be comfortable communicating with your team via email, Slack, Google docs, and video conferences as this is an entirely distributed team.

The current Tech team started coming together in late 2017 and has delivered on our goals for supporting the 2018 midterms. But we have even more ambitious plans for 2020 and need to grow. We are looking for several managers who can lead teams of four to six engineers and who are comfortable hiring for and managing a distributed team. If you live in DC you can work out of the DNC headquarters or you can work remotely from wherever you are. While we’re definitely looking for folks with first class engineering management skills and remote management experience is a heavy plus, we don’t require previous experience in politics. If you are coming from industry, you’ll find that politics is a different world with its own set of challenges and frustrations. On the other hand, you might legit help save the world.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC), is committed to diversity among its staff, and recognizes that its continued success requires the highest commitment to obtaining and retaining a diverse staff that provides the best quality services to supporters and constituents.
