Company Website: https://bionewsservices.com/
Remote Locations: Worldwide
Job Type: Freelance

Job Overview:

The role of a Forums Moderator is to facilitate relevant and informative discussions on their platform, and to engage their designated patient and caregiver communities. Though each forum and disease community will vary in terms of structure, the basic duties for all forum moderators remains the same.

Job Responsibilities:

There are many ways to go about engaging patient and caregiver communities through the forums, and new ideas are always welcomed and encouraged. However, the following are requirements for all forum moderators.

  • Moderators are to welcome anyone who joins the forums and reply to user posts and comments in a timely manner. Also, keeping an eye out for spammers and notifying BioNews’ tech personnel when a spammer appears is key.
  • Moderators are to ask questions related to life with their specific disease/disability, news and research, assistive technologies and other topics that they feel are relevant to their disease communities. Our goal is to make all of our forums sources of quality information and discussion content for patients, families, caregivers and researchers.
  • Moderators should be posting new discussion topics and questions throughout the week. Discussion topics can be anything from original questions they post, articles, podcasts, videos or blog posts which they deem relevant. Moderators are more than welcome to post articles and multimedia content in the forums from other sites and sources. The content here is different from what we publish on the main sites. Moderators don’t have to go through an editorial process to create new posts/discussion topics in their forums. Links to articles and videos that are about their disease make for great discussion topics. The important thing is for moderators to continually post new topics on a regular basis.
Job Requirements:
  • Diagnosed patient or caregiver to a patient within the rare disease or disorder site you are moderating for. (Please only apply if you are a member of the Parkinson’s community)
  • Excellent written communication skills in English (American English preferred). A proven ability through established publications or a blog to write well and communicate thoughts clearly is a definite advantage.
  • Ability to produce accurate and detailed content in a competitive environment.
  • Openness to communicating needs or problems to manager in a timely fashion.
  • Willingness to accept changes and feedback to forums topics made by manager, and openness to discussing differences in a professional manner.
  • Openness and ability to learn new technologies to meet the changing demands of online publishing, and to upgrade current skill set.
  • Flexible in working in a self-directed, rapidly changing environment.
  • Attention to detail, responsible, and reliable.
  • Experience working in digital media a plus.
