The Role

The Systems Administrator on the IT Infrastructure team will provide technical support for cloud-hosted infrastructure that critical Veeva internal systems run on. The system administrator will be expected to design and build new infrastructure using Amazon Web Services, refactor and optimize existing infrastructure for performance and reliability, and run maintenance tasks for upkeep. The position will require an individual that is a team player, self-motivated, a quick learner, resourceful, and cool under fire.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and build application infrastructure based on specifications required by the application
  • Execute installations and upgrades of applications running in the hosted environments
  • Own the troubleshooting and resolution of issues related to the infrastructure
  • When requested, support the application teams in troubleshooting of application issues (e.g., pulling logs, database queries)
  • Execute maintenance tasks including but not limited to: OS patching, backup maintenance, access requests
  • Work with security teams to investigate and remediate security vulnerability findings discovered on the infrastructure
  • Configure, tune infrastructure monitoring and alerting to enable proactive (e.g., trend analysis) and reactive support
  • Contribute to improving operational efficiency by identifying automation opportunities and implementing solutions
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing across the team by creating high-quality documentation and presenting it to team members
  • On a rotating basis, provide on-call after-hours support for responding to and resolving urgent issues

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent work experience/certifications
  • 3+ years of experience working as a system administrator with both Windows and Linux OS in a production cloud environment
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues
  • Self-starter and excellent team player
  • Hands-on, demonstrated experience in building and running scripts in at least one scripting language
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Available to execute production changes off hours when necessary
  • Available to take on the periodic on-call duty

Nice to Have

  • Experience using Ansible
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL
  • Scripting skills in multiple languages (Bash, Python, Ruby, etc)
  • Experience building infrastructure on other cloud compute services (Azure, GCP)
  • Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, Load Balancing, Firewalls
  • Experience with backup tools such as Veeam
