Job Overview:

YourDictionary.com is a best-in-class grammar and reference site. In addition to easy-to-understand definitions and synonyms, it provides writing, spelling and grammar tips, word lists, example articles, and more. We are currently looking for a part-time staff writer to join our editorial content team.

We are looking for writers with solid experience and knowledge of this subject matter. This means education and/or work experience that is directly related to the subjects we cover, not just experience as a writer. Maybe you’re an educator who has taught several subjects and has a penchant for punctuation, or a writer with a teaching degree who can tell an aphorism from an arthropod. We want a writer who can create accessible, informative content covering a wide range of grammatical and educational topics for learners of all ages.

This is a part-time (up to 25 hours per week), telecommuting employee position. Writers create high-quality content that addresses our readers’ needs and adheres to company guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Write high-quality articles that address the needs and queries of our readers
  • Ensure that all articles are written in a manner consistent with company guidelines
  • Work on fixing older content, which includes updating and rewriting existing articles
  • Keep an accurate record of time worked
  • Communicate with the rest of the editorial team as needed
  • Attend regular (virtual) meetings
  • Give your feedback, ideas, and suggestions on YourDictionary and other LoveToKnow Corp. properties
  • Allot time for working on personal authority/branding
Job Requirements:

The ideal staff writer has a love of (and is knowledgeable in) English grammar and language usage, preferably with a strong education background. Familiarity with the sciences or social sciences would be beneficial. Experience working with a content management system (CMS) and writing for the web is a plus.

  • Minimum of one year professional writing experience
  • Familiarity with the principles of writing for a web audience
  • Excellent research skills
  • Ability to follow style guides, brand guidelines, and voice standards
  • Self-motivated with excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Flexibility to tackle a variety of different article types
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education or a related field

Great to Have:

  • Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Associated Press (AP) style
  • Experience teaching at a secondary grade level or above
