About the Global Climate Mobilization Project Coordinator Position

Are you experienced in organizing public mobilizations for social justice, particularly with marginalized communities or where there is limited political space? Do you thrive on working in multicultural, multi-stakeholder groups and have a flair for project management that can coordinate groups to align and deliver?

350.org is looking for a Global Mobilization Project Coordinator to help design, deliver and generate participation in the organization’s flagship moment in 2023.

The person will be responsible for figuring out how to manifest the event’s ambitious vision into strong project management, such as helping co-build a dynamic and high-trust core project team, and a well managed workplan, budget, risk planning, and evaluation. They will play a key role in contributing to the events strategy and engaging 350s regional teams, movement partners, and network of local group volunteers around the world.

Core skills required are a driven self-starter with complex project management experience able to work responsively in a fast-paced environment, have relentless attention to detail, with an engaging and culturally sensitive communication style, creative instincts, and a keen sense for campaign and movement strategy and dynamics.

The role will be contracted by the Global Movement Support Director in our Campaigns and Organizing Department, and collaborate closely with organizing, training, campaigns and communications staff around the world.

Service Environment: This is a consulting/contractor role lasting up to 8 months (project start date as soon as possible from 1st April, concluding 30 November 2023). We anticipate the equivalent of 4 days a week (negotiable) to be necessary to deliver on this project. It is a remote position, with core working hours in the Africa/Europe time zone. Travel may be required a couple of times, anticipated around September/October.

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinate global project teams to deliver mobilizations with workplans.
  • Help keep partners from across the world consulted, inspired and engaged in joint mobilizations.
  • Support 350 Regional teams with grants, logistical support, and their participation in global mobilization moment.
  • Ensure 350 staff from Communications, Campaigning and Organizing, and Regional Teams, etc are clear on their responsibilities, coordinate effectively together, and deliver on time and to budget.
  • Support communications flow and systems, such as hosting internal regular meetings and providing regular cross-organizational updates.
  • Manage and track the 350 project budget implementation, reporting to the budget owner.
  • Ensure good project management such as sign-off processes, risk management within 350 and with partners.
  • Work with the Organizing and Campaigning, Comms, and Regional teams to ensure absorption plans are planned as follow-up from mobilizations.
  • Design and deliver evaluation and learning process at the end of mobilizations.

Job Requirements

  • Experienced in organizing public mobilizations for social justice, with creative instincts.
  • Established track record of successful project management and leadership of complex project teams, and experience with different project management tools.
  • Excellent self-organizing skills; Problem solver with a positive attitude; willing to dig in on all kinds of tasks.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, making sound decisions and deliver work in a timely manner, not becoming overwhelmed when facing action/high workload, acting reliably and honestly even under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, and an excellent coordinator of diverse teams, with an ability to powerfully and regularly communicate and build alignment with key staff and external stakeholders behind joint vision, goals and decisions.
  • Culturally intelligent/sensitive, and a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI), anti-racism or anti-oppression work.
  • Decent working written and spoken English – able to communicate ideas effectively.

Desired (but not required) Skills and Experiences:

  • Experience in public mobilization in authoritarian and other limited political spaces
  • Non-violent direct action and civil disobedience experience.
  • Project management in a multi-country project – coordinating global, remotely-based people around the world.
  • Experience working with diverse coalitions.
  • Understanding & experience working with marginalized communities deeply affected by climate change and fossil fuels, such as indigenous communities on the front lines of fighting the extractive industry.
  • Understanding and experience of working in the climate movement.
  • Organizing with local groups – coaching and supporting volunteer leaders – Ability to create materials that meet their needs.
  • Experience as a trainer/facilitator.
  • Experience collaborating with communications and digital campaign colleagues.
  • Multilingual – particularly geographically wide-spread languages.
